Project History

ORIGINALLUXURY

ORIGINALLUXURY, initially known as THE INDEX, was established as a collaborative venture between E4S , UNIL-HEC, IMD, The Swiss Center for Luxury Research and OriginAll, with the primary objective of assessing transparency and traceability initiatives within the luxury sectors. A year in, a particular focus on technology's role in amplifying transparency, traceability, product security and data integrity was made. Hosted by the Swiss Center for Luxury Research, our consortium of over 50 luxury brands and 14 technology partners serves as a hub for academic research and insights and is dedicated to analyzing, assessing and displaying the newest digital innovations that can empower brands and customers with relevant and intuitive information, fostering responsible decision-making. More than just a resource and research center, being it through our events, workshops, online platforms or the ORIGINALLUXURY LAB, our goal is to facilitate collaboration, encourage knowledge exchange and best practices, as well as provide networking opportunities for industry professionals, technology experts, and global specialists in the luxury industry.

The initiative stands out for its diverse array of stakeholders. Our consortium encompasses over 50 luxury brands and suppliers from sectors such as cosmetics, jewelry, and high-end fashion. Our uniqueness also lies in the growing constellation of technology providers that have joined our consortium.

Since its establishment, THE INDEX has been at the forefront of championing transparency and traceability in the luxury sector. Our initiative has successfully orchestrated two luxury roundtables, marking them as hallmark events in our journey. These exclusive, invitation-only gatherings have become a beacon for thought leadership, inviting industry experts and members to engage deeply with issues central to the luxury world, particularly focusing on transparency and traceability.

In these confidential forums, participants have the unique opportunity to engage in open and dynamic discussions. This environment nurtures the free exchange of innovative ideas, offers new perspectives, and enhances the collective understanding of the complexities involved in maintaining transparency, both within organizations and towards the consumer.

A pivotal achievement of our initiative is the development of the 'Technology For Transparency' report. This bi-annual publication stands as a testament to our unwavering dedication to advancing industry knowledge and fostering a culture of transparency in the luxury sector. It amalgamates a rich array of insights from a wide spectrum of technological suppliers, covering areas such as anti-counterfeiting measures, blockchain-enabled traceability solutions, and consumer engagement technologies.

Elevating its value, this report now includes invaluable contributions from both brands and suppliers, offering a holistic perspective that is rare and insightful. These contributions add depth and breadth, ensuring that the report is not only a guiding beacon for brands navigating the complex landscape of transparency solutions but also a repository of real-world experiences and strategies.

By addressing the multifaceted challenges faced and underscoring the significant benefits attained, the 'Technology For Transparency' report is more than just a publication – it is an instrumental tool in driving the luxury industry towards heightened levels of transparency, accountability, and sustainability. Each edition is a step forward in our journey to reshape the future of luxury, making it more ethical and transparent for all stakeholders involved.
